The Riverfront Trail at The Dalles is a beautiful paved trail that traces the south bank of the Columbia River at the historic "bend in the river," where the Columbia takes a dramatic 90-degree turn from its east-west flow to a north-south direction.
The Riverfront Trail re-establishes the connection between the Community of The Dalles and the Columbia River. This non-motorized recreatonal factility benefits bicyclists, pedestrians, joggers, pet walkers, and people with disabilities (much of the Trail is ADA-accessible).
When completed, the Riverfront Trail will traverse 10 miles of river frontage between The Discovery Center, located at the northwestern terminus, and The Dalles Dam Visitor Center, located at the eastern terminus of the Trail.
The Riverfront Trail
The Riverfront Trail at The Dalles winds along the southern bank of the Columbia River for ten miles between The Discovery Center to the northwest and The Dalles Dam Visitor Center at the eastern terminus. The asphalt-paved trail is 8- to 12-feet wide, making it perfect for bicyclists, walkers with dogs or strollers, joggers, and many others. The majority of the Riverfront Trail is ADA accessible.
Ammenities along the Riverfront Trail include restrooms (the Pocket Park and The Dalles Dam Visitor Center), easy access to downtown The Dalles, numerous benches, and distribution points for small baggies to be used by dog walkers (thank you for collecting your pet's product distribution). In the summer, S.U.P. and kayak rentals are available at the Celilo Paddle Co. in Riverfront Park, at the 6.5 mile point .
The Riverfront Trail is accessible approxiamtely every mile of the six miles between The Discovery Center and Riverfront Park. There are no access points between the Riverfront Park and the Lone Pine residential development, as the trail parallels the busy I-84 corridor.
Would you like to see Riverfront Park access to the Trail open all year around?
