Construction is underway on a section of Riverfront Trail near mile marker 2. The first stage of the project began on March 5 and is anticipated to take approximately four days to complete. To ensure safety of our users it will require this section of the trail to be closed to the public, but should reopen on Tuesday, March 10.
Contractors Cargo Company has been contracted to haul seven 860,000 pound transformers into the Celilo converter station off of US 197. The transformers will be transported on barges from Vancouver, Washington and unloaded at the Port of The Dalles.
Contractors Cargo Company will be using an existing barge slip located at approximately mile two of the trail. The trail is being lowered seven feet to accommodate unloading of the transformers onto Port of The Dalles property. The trail will receive an asphalt overlay during the project timeline to allow continued use. Local firm Crestline Construction has been secured to perform the required adjustments.
The general project timeline calls for four days of construction on the trail in March and four days of construction at the end of August to bring the trail back to the current elevation. The affected section of the trail will be closed during these dates. Additionally, there will be 4 dates where the trail will be closed for transport of the transformers. The first date is scheduled for April 1 with additional dates falling in 30-45 day sequences.
