Geocaching in The Dalles

Did you know that there are treasure-boxes hidden all around The Dalles?

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

GPS units are available and free to check-out from the Parks Office:

414 Washington Street, Suite 1D. (The Medical Arts Building, next to The Civic)

Hide a cache!

Anyone wanting to place a cache on park property must obtain permission from NWCPRD. This is to preserve historically and biologically sensitive areas in our parks.

Seek a cache!

Go to www.geocaching.com and type in your zip code for a list of caches nearby. There are nearly 100 geocaches in The Dalles area, and many of them are located in our Parks. You will need to make a profile (its free!) and log in, to see the coordinates.

You can earn an official NWCPRD geocoin by finding the cache called: Parks HQ but you must be logged in to the geocaching site if you want to view the coordinates.
